On 09.15.07 Saturday evening we walked in and were told it will be 45 minutes. After 40 minutes walked in to check again we were told that he was sitting reservations first and did not know how long it would be. My wife and I had our cousin and 7 year old nephew out of town whos nuts about sushi. We were looking forward to this meal all day and had bitter sushi at the end. Next time I would walk in ask for phone number call make reservation in front of them and come back at the time I specified - it should be more reliable according to their rules. But I am never going back probably better for both them and us. I cant believe I am still bitter about it... usually I am not... sorry. I would not have said anything if it wasnt for my nephew.

In Short A sushi bar takes up the far end of the room, while Mission bar hoppers and neighborhood locals crowd small tables that fill the rest of the cozy space. Colorful round paper lanterns hang overhead. The menu is dominated by sushi and beautifully presented rolls like the Castro Rainbow, a vibrant creation of crab, avocado, tuna, salmon, ebi and halibut, but teriyaki and doburi dishes are also offered. A list of sake, wine and brews rounds out the offerings.

One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in San Francisco. The menu ranges from a light a fluffy seafood crepe, to a delicious and traditional catfish in a clay pot. This wonderfully intimate restaurant is owned and operated by the chef, which makes for a very unique environment. Thuy welcomes most guests by their first names, and is dedicated to providing a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere for all of her patrons. The overall feel is hip and relaxed, and you can literally taste the quality of the ingredients in each dish. Elephant Bleu is a star among the other Asian offerings in the Mission, and well worth a trip across the city. And its still secretive enough to make a great tip for friends. The indo combo and pho ga are two of my personal favorites. 16th between dolores and guerrero

There aren't many Japanese places in the city offering sushi rolls with crab, tuna or barbecued eel for less than $5. Whether you think this is a good thing or not will color your impression of this rather roomy, very affordable, health-focused Valencia Street sushi stop advertising food "like Mom used to make." The standard sushi selection is all priced at about $3 for two pieces, bento boxes are around $13 and include rice and miso soup with your choice of sushi, chirashi, tempura, teriyaki and the like. Bottom line? Locals looking to not spend more than they would on a 2-pound burrito come here for a fresh fish fix when they're not in the mood for Mexican.

The Scene Grubby chaos may rule the streets outside, but harmony and comfort await guests within. Judy, the daughter and front-of the-house half of the mother-daughter team that runs the establishment, works in the music industry, so expect to hear the latest cool tunes while eating her mom's creative, often organic, Japanese-Californian home cooking. The small dining area is tastefully decorated with bamboo accents. The Food Vegetarians and vegans often feel left out at restaurants--not so here. Eel-free vegan unagi is made of deep-fried potato swathed in a deliciously sweet barbecue-style sauce. Gyoza (Japanese pot stickers) are greaseless and accompanied by a perfectly balanced dipping sauce. The wonderfully spicy tuna salad is like a rich steak tartare, and the spinach salad is sublime. A traditional California roll is made with a very untraditional fried crab cake. Each beautifully presented dish is a work of art for the eye, as well as the palate.

My coworker said this place has HORRIBLE customer service. They did not acknowledge his presence or anything. He and his friends (including me) had reservations at 8:45 but they arrived at 8:50. Yes they were five minutes late but that does not excuse their actions. They did not assist them at all!!! They may have been busy but that does not mean they should ignore a huge party!!! PLUS they kept seating other big parties and just IGNORED US. ( i arrived twenty minutes late)... Due to that WE LEFT!!!!! They lost our business.... By the way the food is good but SERVICE IS NOT!!

Kitaros has a waiting list because people want cheap Japanese food. Thats exactly what Kitaros serves cheap as in bad Japanese food. The restaurant is quite crowded and it is hard to hear yourself think much less listen to another person talk. But Kitaros offers the cheapest Japanese food next to Costcos faux California Rolls.

In Short With perpetually fogged-up windows and a tell-tale crowd of patiently waiting patrons holding brown-bagged beers outside its door, this tiny sushi joint is hard to miss on busy weekend nights--even without obvious signage or a phone number for would-be diners to call for directions. The draw? Fresh fish on the cheap. Patrons munch on classic nigiri and sashimi selections, as well as rolls like spicy tuna and rock 'n roll. Vegetarians will find a sizable list of suitable options.

In Short A relatively plain interior with plenty of room for groups sets the stage at this Castro eatery offering basic sushi with a few variations. The restaurant draws a moderate crowd during the evenings, but there's rarely a wait. Sushi options range from the expected (California rolls, tuna rolls, eel rolls, etc.) to the uncommon (the Church roll includes deep-fried asparagus and mango).

Azie is my favorite restaurant in the city. As a Mid-westener I am very picky. Especially when it comes to foreign cuisine but my tastebuds were absolutely blown away by the unique blending of flavors and the exquisite sauces. The atmosphere is very apeasing but my attention was continuously drawn to the open view of the amazingly talented line cooks preparing the meals (noteably the adorable pantry/sautee chef)!

great fish watch the glass! and call ahead! (the lines are long). first a warning: you can wait up to 2hrs to get in here (my friends say in all sincerity). well I went for the 3rd time last thursday and there was no wait but the waitress broke a glass and I found a glass chip by my sushi roll! it kinda freaked me out. so ah I am giving them 3 stars only because I pointed out the glass chip and the waitress basically said so what ! ha. VERY nice sushi maker guy though...

My friends and I have been to Blowfish probably 100 times in the past 7 years. I live 1 block away. It was convenient and the sushi is good. We always tolerated the bad service and the attitude. Of the 100 times weve been weve probably had good service 20% of the time. Despite the frequency of our patronage we rarely got recognized by the staff and OFTEN waited 20-25 minutes (or more) for drink orders the check etc... and the attitude and aloofness was palpable. The last time I went I sat at the bar and a male bartender clearly seemed annoyed with us for no reason at all. We begged for drinks opened our own Sake bottle (not twist off - corkscrew) and were pretty much ignored all night long - right down to waiting FOREVER for our bill. I told my friends this is the last time.... Its embarrassing to bring in guests from out of town. I eat out 99% of the time and they have the worst service I have ever consistently experienced. Do yourself a favor go to nearby Live Sushi Bar or Sushi Bistro and be waited on by people who smile with no attitude. The sushi at both places is excellent too. and Blowfish...get over yourself. dont dont dont dont...dont believe the hype..... Chris B
