On 09.15.07 Saturday evening we walked in and were told it will be 45 minutes. After 40 minutes walked in to check again we were told that he was sitting reservations first and did not know how long it would be. My wife and I had our cousin and 7 year old nephew out of town whos nuts about sushi. We were looking forward to this meal all day and had bitter sushi at the end. Next time I would walk in ask for phone number call make reservation in front of them and come back at the time I specified - it should be more reliable according to their rules. But I am never going back probably better for both them and us. I cant believe I am still bitter about it... usually I am not... sorry. I would not have said anything if it wasnt for my nephew.

Good food, Good price, Good service
This is my favorite local sushi place. It is the very best sushi I've had for the price. They could certainly charge MUCH more. It is definitely the best sushi in the neighborhood. The service is friendly too. It is a small restaurant with only a few tables in front, a sushi bar, and a few tables in back. The atmosphere is quiet and the decor is simple. Frequently the owner comes to our table to greet us. I really like the gyoza and the fried crab appetizers. They have some very creative rolls as well. Ok, this is not high-end sushi, but you can't expect that for the prices they charge. The other two affordable sushi places in the immediate area (Yo Yo and We Be) are cheaper but they both serve terrible food. You can get better sushi in the city if you want to pay $$$$. However, this really is the VERY best quality sushi I've had in this price range.

WAY too expensive!
First off, when chirashi (assorted sashimi slices over sushi rice) is $14.50, I expect it to be fresh fish with a good assortment for that price. It was not. I got 4 types of fish with 3 slices each. That is extremely little. Salmon, tuna, hamachi (i think) and some other white fish. Texture wise, a bit on the tough side except the hamachi. Miso tasted too diluted. Usually I can't finish a chirashi dinner or I'll be way too full afterwards. I was still HUNGRY! Since I got it for delivery, the guy made me order a $20 minimum (even though it says it's a $15 minimum). So I also ordered a rock n roll roll. $8 for 8 pieces is completely not worth it. (try yum yum sushi on irving. 6 pieces, $3) But I thought I'd give it a try. I had to polish the whole thing off with the chirashi to be full. The actual roll was not that great. The eel was old, chewy, and oily. Lastly, when I ordered, they told me it would get here in 30 min, 45 min the latest, but most likely 30 min since they weren't busy at all. I waited an hour! totally not cool. He also didn't give me a total. In my mind $14.50+$8.00=$25 with tip.(Unfortunately I forgot to add the tax, completely my mistake). So I only gave the guy $25 when he got here and he audibly exclaimed "Oh My God!" before I could even apologize and ask him to wait so I could get a few more dollars. So forget that! I don't need rudeness + expensiveness + not top quality food. That all equals to me never ordering from them again. Unless I am dumb enough to forget, which then I would deserve it. If they're prices were a good $3 less for everything, I might consider ordering again. But until then, I'd rather just avoid all of them.

Perfect for sushi delivery
I've tried to have sushi delivered from a couple of places before, and it was always a nightmare.
In contrast, Crazy Sushi delivers delicious, fresh sushi, super fast. It is a little expensive, but definitely worth it. Be sure to check out their menu to see some of their unique roll creations, and always be sure to ask about the specials of the day.
I highly recommend the crispy roll - delicious. And, if you're not in the sushi mood, their Chicken Teriyaki is also very unique and delicious.
I've already had them deliver to me over a dozen times, and it's been fresh and delicious every time. You can access their menu at crazysushisf dot com- jackorama

One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in San Francisco. The menu ranges from a light a fluffy seafood crepe, to a delicious and traditional catfish in a clay pot. This wonderfully intimate restaurant is owned and operated by the chef, which makes for a very unique environment. Thuy welcomes most guests by their first names, and is dedicated to providing a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere for all of her patrons. The overall feel is hip and relaxed, and you can literally taste the quality of the ingredients in each dish. Elephant Bleu is a star among the other Asian offerings in the Mission, and well worth a trip across the city. And its still secretive enough to make a great tip for friends. The indo combo and pho ga are two of my personal favorites. 16th between dolores and guerrero

Great hideaway Mission Vietnamese
Talk about personal service! The owner, Thuy is always there to cook and wait on me whenever I've been in there. She personally prepares some of the best bun la (vermicelli) dish I think I have ever tried here in the city. Always prompt and attentive, Thuy makes my experience at Elephant Bleu so worth it. How many places do you know of where the owner caters right to you? Somewhat small, but really cozy and always fresh and fast entres. It's only a few blocks from my apartment, so I make my way down there all the time.

Great Food, Nice People, Quiet Atmosphere
Elephant Bleu is a treasure in the Mission. It has great food, and the owner, Thuy, is always very friendly and polite. I go frequently, and the food always hits the spot. I love the spring rolls with meatballs. Delicious. I would recommend it to everyone. The place isn't that big, so it's initimate and you can always get a great meal.

There aren't many Japanese places in the city offering sushi rolls with crab, tuna or barbecued eel for less than $5. Whether you think this is a good thing or not will color your impression of this rather roomy, very affordable, health-focused Valencia Street sushi stop advertising food "like Mom used to make." The standard sushi selection is all priced at about $3 for two pieces, bento boxes are around $13 and include rice and miso soup with your choice of sushi, chirashi, tempura, teriyaki and the like. Bottom line? Locals looking to not spend more than they would on a 2-pound burrito come here for a fresh fish fix when they're not in the mood for Mexican.

Good sushi, great prices
We went here with a large group and ordered a bunch of the rolls off of the sushi menu. The yellowtail and green onion was fabulous, the spicy tuna was very spicy, and the rock n' roll was a favorite (unagi & avacado). Simple presentation, but great taste. Vegetarian sushi was very flavorful also (we ordered the shitake mushroom & eggplant rolls). Recommended if you are looking for simple sushi at great prices.

ABSOLUTLY the BEST Sushi in Town....
I moved back to S.F. from L.A. about six months ago. Anyone who knows L.A. knows the sushi is amazing. I have to say that I think Yo Yo is far better than anywhere I went in L.A. Eddie, the sushi chef, knows how to buy and prep his raw fish better than anyone I have ever met. His rolls are to die for and the place is so relaxing because it is not too crowded and the family atmosphere. These two character filled sisters own and run the restaurant. It is a great experience all around.

The Greatest Sushi!!
I love this place!! They are so friendly. The service is wonderful. The sushi chef Eddie is the best. The fish is wonderful. The prices are great! I go every week and I have not been disappointed yet. You are going to have a wonderful sushi experience at Yo Yo!!

More than a bargain
Yo-yo combines excellent sushi, friendly service, and ample seating in an area not known for it. Who needs Go-go, when you can have Yo-yo. Honestly, I don't even know anyone who works there, but I feel compelled to sing their praises. Heck, I've told everyone I know and am a little scared that it will become too popular. Luckily for me, the 50s diner decor will keep the hordes away. Enjoy!

Poor value for the money
Sorry to rain on the '5-star' parade going on around here, but for us, several reasons made Minako a definite "no-repeat" experience:
1.) While the lure of 'organic' does imply SOMEWHAT higher prices, the pricing is highly unreasonable for the quantity of food you actually get. We ordered wakame salads, which turned out to be tiny for $8.00 each. Plus, the flavor of these salads was very unappetizing. (As the appetizer prices are omitted from the menu, we only learned JUST how disappointed we were when the bill arrived.) The "appetizer" portion of the tofu teryaki was, for $12.00, woefully tiny.
2.) Very slow service. For a 2-person dinner, how long can 2 plates of teryaki take? Pretty damn long, we learned. The timing of the delivery was off as well, as one of us was served our entree 20 minutes before the other.
In summary, our experience with the pricing and the mediocre quality of the dishes makes this place a very poor value for the money you spend.- dgmw
Please don't eat here because you make the wait longer for the rest of us.
This is the best restaurant in SF.
Yoko and Judy make the experience feel like going to eat at your long lost japanese family's house. The food is fantastic, with tons of creative choices and artful presentations.
The restaurant is so small that sometimes there's a long wait and that can be annoying. It is nice to see people complaining about the restaurant because if everyone had a positive experience there, I'd NEVER get a table! In fact, the owner deliberately discourages restaurant reviews in local papers because she doesn't want bigger crowds than she already has. They have a very loyal clientle who loves them as much as I do, so if you're not there for the whole experience and show up with a bad attitude, please go to one of the yuppie restaurants around the corner on Valencia instead.- ashsf
best japanese restaurant in san francisco
minako's is very talented at japanese food. their fish, whether it be in something cooked or raw, is always fresh and delicious. but they also have excellent sukiyaki and other traditional japanese dishes. if you're a vegetarian looking for japanese food, minako's is one of the few japanese restaurants i know of that also caters to vegetarians and even vegans. their veggie eel is not exactly like real eel, but it's very tasty. and they're also environmentally conscious to boot, as everything they serve is organic. as long as you're patient and friendly (don't go there when you're in a rush -- they have just one chef in the back doing ALL the work and she really works hard to make all the food just right), minako's is an excellent choice for dinner.

My coworker said this place has HORRIBLE customer service. They did not acknowledge his presence or anything. He and his friends (including me) had reservations at 8:45 but they arrived at 8:50. Yes they were five minutes late but that does not excuse their actions. They did not assist them at all!!! They may have been busy but that does not mean they should ignore a huge party!!! PLUS they kept seating other big parties and just IGNORED US. ( i arrived twenty minutes late)... Due to that WE LEFT!!!!! They lost our business.... By the way the food is good but SERVICE IS NOT!!

Used to be good...
I used to come here regularly, but stopped going for no reason in particular. Decided to go Friday night and it was AWFUL. We ordered an assortment of vegetable sushi, the nigiri 9-piece and a tempura rolle. The miso soup (not included) was just weird-tasting. Lots of onions. Sushi just wasn't fresh, wasn't rolled well. Each piece of nigiri had a dab of wasabi right in the middle between the fish and the rice (not an even stripe down the middle, which is how I thought it was supposed to be made, to more evenly distribute the flavor of the wasabi). I've never before left sushi uneaten on the plate, but I did this time and won't be back (why go back when there are so many wonderful sushi restaurants).

Sushi even I can afford. Plenty of food for 2 usually costs me about $20. Beat that. I think the food here is better than most places who charge more. This place has old time San Francisco charm. Don't forget to call it "No Name."

late night sushi!
this was a great late night spot to run into as my friends were grudgingly trying to accept burgers for dinner and the painful realization that our normal sushi spots were all closed.
as we were about to turn in for the burger spot; we realized that we saw the magical words, "open" and "sushi." Eureka, they're open and we still have a good amount of time left to chow down (closing was 12am)..
order the amazing unagi... i think that ends this review.. ^_^- anesejatina

Good Bite 4 your money!
I love Miyabi!
Try the Phili-Roll and fall in love, the Unagi is very yummi and I could praise the entire sushi menu.
We have eaten there many, many times and only had one bad experience, when they seemed understaffed. However- the waitress kept bringing us appetizers to make up for the long wait.
This was one bad day in many years of dining there.
The quality of the sushi is always very consistant and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who LOVES sushi but doesn't have the big bucks to spend!
Are there better places? Sure - but I'd pass the fanciest place for this "quick fix" ;-)- catnip_rebel

My good friend took me their for my birthday dinner a week ago, and I have a blast plus I did not have to paid. The have very good quality fish at a very fair price. The staff was very nice, they gave us a free tempura ice cream cake with a candle in the middle because my friend told them it was my birthday. After the dinner we just walk over the the The Mint Karaoke right next door and sang our heart out.

The shrimp tempura rainbow row is absolutely the best in s.f. The sashimi is fresh and good and the nigiri is awsome! For people who like deep fried stuff i suggest the dynamite roll and gaint roll.

This place has Ichigo Daifuku ... 'nough said!!!
If you haven't had Ichigo Daifuku, you have truly missed one of this life's great pleasures. It is a delicious combination of mochi and fresh strawberry that will blast your buds clear out of your mouth.
On top of Ichigo Daifuku, Eiji specializes in tofu. Now, I am not a huge tofu fan, and my friends know I like my meats, but the the tofu here is so elegantly prepared and presented that I just had to try a bit ... Followed by the freshest, elegantly put together sushi of course.
This is one of the few restaurants in town where you can taste the passion that the chef has for food in every sight & bite. Fortunately, for us locals who have discovered this gem, its a bit hard to find ... shhhh.
p.s. - Eiji did well to deserve my first 5 star rating.- openville

My friends and I have been to Blowfish probably 100 times in the past 7 years. I live 1 block away. It was convenient and the sushi is good. We always tolerated the bad service and the attitude. Of the 100 times weve been weve probably had good service 20% of the time. Despite the frequency of our patronage we rarely got recognized by the staff and OFTEN waited 20-25 minutes (or more) for drink orders the check etc... and the attitude and aloofness was palpable. The last time I went I sat at the bar and a male bartender clearly seemed annoyed with us for no reason at all. We begged for drinks opened our own Sake bottle (not twist off - corkscrew) and were pretty much ignored all night long - right down to waiting FOREVER for our bill. I told my friends this is the last time.... Its embarrassing to bring in guests from out of town. I eat out 99% of the time and they have the worst service I have ever consistently experienced. Do yourself a favor go to nearby Live Sushi Bar or Sushi Bistro and be waited on by people who smile with no attitude. The sushi at both places is excellent too. and Blowfish...get over yourself. dont dont dont dont...dont believe the hype..... Chris B

i love this place - good vibes - great sushi cute menu excellent nigori sake. very down home not for those who are used to the orfinary boring tablecloth laminated menu with soft elevator music wearing your sunday best crowd. this place is run by a japanese punk band and their family. great place for a date if your date is cool. if your date is lame you may have a good time anyways. mad proper. moshi moshi
